Media Visionary – Hilary Cochran

Oprah Winfrey is a successful American businesswoman, talk show host, and actress. She found her beginnings at Tennessee State University in 1971 when she began working in radio and TV broadcasting. She soon moved to Baltimore, Maryland and picked up the chat show People Are Talking. She stayed with it for eight years – the show was a hit. Later she was recruited to do her own morning show in Chicago called A.M. Chicago. Her whirlwind success led to major roles, some even in acting. She was cast in Steven Spielberg’s moving film, The Color Purple, in 1985. Finally she launched the Oprah Winfrey Show in 1986. Her talk show grabbed the screens of 120 channels and the eyes of 10 million people. She was making millions. She hit the jackpot and her success has just continued even after the conclusion of The Oprah Winfrey Show in May 2011.
