Katharine Graham being one of the most powerful women in the mass media, owned one of the most well-known newspaper company in the United States, The Washington Post. She was not only the owner of the company but also one of the main publishers of the newspaper. From 1973-1991, she was board chairman and chief executive of the company. The Washington Post became known for its major investigations such as the publication of the secret Pentagon Papers. This went against the governments orders. Graham, on two occasions, stood up for freedom of the press. This showed many that general media was not used for the bad. That it could be an outlet for tremendous good.
