Media Visionary: Oprah Winfrey by Lauren Fabiszak

Oprah Winfrey, more commonly known as just “Oprah”, is a pioneer for female and African American journalists. She is currently 60 years old and a billionaire due her worldwide corporations. She started out as a news reporter for WJZ here in Baltimore, before moving to Chicago for a gig that would eventually become “The Oprah Winfrey Show”. During her 25 year run of the show, Oprah became a household name. After the final season, she launched “OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network”, where she now supervises all of the specials and series that air under her studio, “HARPO”. Outside of television journalism, Oprah has her own magazine (titled “O”), and has starred in influential movie roles such as “The Butler”, “The Color Purple”, and “Selma”. Oprah is considered as one of the best journalists of our generation because of her ability to pull out real emotions and fascinating stories from each person she interviews.
